Second Year of Medical Competition Student Success!

The Imperial College Science in Medicine Teams Prize 2024 is a biomedical competition organised by Imperial College London, encouraging students to find solutions to various medical problems through surgical procedures or bioengineering methods.

This competition was geared towards Lower and Upper Sixth students; however, as Divisions students at the time (and having emerged 2nd in the cardiovascular category last year) we decided to re-enter with an even better solution.

We spent two months researching a solution that involved using 3D-printed custom technology to rebuild vascular walls. This involved market research, designing our solution, integrating it with the human body, and testing through clinical trials. After submitting a poster explaining our solution, we were shortlisted for the final round, where we presented to a panel of judges. Our presentation included a well-thought-out pitch followed by a Q & A session. We were thrilled to learn that we emerged as runners-up, earning £500 for the Biology Department – two years in a row!

Participating in this competition was an amazing experience, and we are grateful for both the financial reward and the valuable skills we gained in problem-solving. We would like to extend our thanks to Ms. Stuteley for guiding us through this competition, as well as to the staff who assisted us with our practice pitches.
